Concrete Surface Preparation: Why It Matters

The #1 reason epoxy floors fail is poor surface prep. That's why we never skip it.

A coating is only as strong as its bond to the concrete. Proper mechanical prep is what separates a floor that lasts a year from one that lasts for many years.

What proper prep includes

Diamond grinding

Opens up the concrete so the coating bonds to it (not acid etching).

Crack and joint repair

Cracks, pits and joints are filled before any coating goes down.

Removing old coatings

Paint, sealers and adhesives come off so nothing weak is left underneath.

Moisture testing

So we know if your slab needs a moisture-control primer before coating.

Dust control

Our grinders are connected to industrial vacuums to keep dust to a minimum.

Prep vs. a DIY kit

Most store-bought kits rely on acid etching or a quick scrub. That can't match a mechanically ground surface, and it's why many DIY floors peel within a year or two.
